His Holiness Chogye Trichen Rinpoche of the Tsharpa branch of the Sakya Sect. His family belonged to the sacred Che family. The lineage is said to have descended from the Clear Light Gods.

The Chogye Trichens received many offerings from the Chinese emperors. One unique offering was the ceremonial hat, a copy of which Chogye Rinpoche is often seen wearing in photos. The famous hat was named “Only Ornament of the World” by the emperor. The bronze statue of Chogye Rinpoche which was molded by Holy Guru Chokyi Gyetshen in 2017 is wearing the ceremonial hat.

Phenpo Nalendra is one of the main monasteries of the Tsharpa tradition, located in the northeast of Lhasa in central Tibet. During the heyday, Nalendra grew to house 3,000 monks. Nalendra was one of the most renowned centers in all of Tibet for the practice of the female tantric deity Vajrayogini.

There were said to be generation after generation of yogis, who through the practice of Vajrayogini in the form of Naro Khachoma, had been accomplished. The previous Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, all manifested signs of Naro Khachoma. The former lineage holder of Chogye Trichen, transferred to Vajrayogini’s paradise at the time of his passing away from this world by Phowa, the transference of consciousness.

From His enthronement until the age of thirty-nine, Chogye Rinpoche remained at Nalendra Monastery, where He mastered the monastic scriptural rituals, the rituals of mandala, the ritual musical accompaniment, as well as the major meditation practice lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche carried out retreats of Vajrapani, Hayagriva, Manjushri, Singhamukha and Vajrayogini in the form of Naro Khachoma, and practice the tantric yogas of the subtle channels and vital winds as well as the yogic physical exercises. Chogye Rinpoche has completed meditation retreats of all the major deities of the four classes of Buddhist tantra. During these years, the event of practice was inevitably accompanied by the appearance of signs and wonders.

Chogye Rinpoche was the sole holder of The Collection of Tantras, a treasury of Buddhism, contains teachings and lineages of all Tibetan Buddhist Sect and practice lineages, including Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, Gelug, Bodong, Jonang, Zhije, Urgyen, Nyengyu, Kalachakra and so on. It contains 315 major abhisecana and 25 volumes of great commentaries, so that it generally takes two years for learners to complete all the teachings.

The Fourteenth Dalai Lama and Sakya Trizin the Forty-first, takes Chogye Trichen Rinpoche as the tutors, as well as the head of Nyingma, Kagyu, Gelug, and many other lamas had received the superior Dharma from Chogye Trichen Rinpoche.

Chogye Rinpoche was invited to various countries, such as France, the United States, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and etc., for the propagation of Buddha Dharma. All the fortunate disciples have received and highly admired Chogye Rinpoche’s holiness.

Located in Kathmandu, Nepal, Jamchen Lhakhang Monastery was completed in 1985, with a splendid 12-meter statue of bodhisattva maitreya, made with 280-kilogram gold, making it precious and dignified beyond description. Presided over by the Holiness the Sakya Trizin, accompanied by many eminent Rinpoche and lamas from various Sect, the eight-day consecration ceremony became one of the great Buddhist events at that time.

Till now, people who visit the famous Bodhnath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal, know the Jamchen Lhakhang Monastery was next to it. The abbot is Chogye Trichen Rinpoche whose blessing was so precious that many people applied it to avoid sickness and adversities. Chogye Rinpoche was venerated by not only the Tibetan but also the Nepalese.

The expenditure of Tashi Rabten Ling Monastery in Lumbini, was donated by a foreign disciple who was cured of cancer after gaining such a great blessing from Chogye Rinpoche.

In 2004, Tashi Rabten Ling Monastery was completed in Lumbini Garden, Nepal. This is a big temple and its location has convenient transportation. Every year before Tibet's Lunar New Year, Chogye Rinpoche would lead Sangha to hold the ceremony of the tantric deities Mahakala and Mahakali for over ten to fifteen days.

Every end of the year, the Great Sakya Monlam foundation for world peace was held here, and annually attracted over three thousands of monks and buddhists to visit and participate the 10 days ceremony. During these days, people always came to visit His Holiness and gaining such a great blessing.

Chogye Rinpoche had great Dharma propagation, which affected sentient beings profoundly. The King Birendra piously worshiped Him as Gorkha Dakshin Babu, which meant “the great teacher of West Nepal.” The king showed the greatest respect to Chogye Rinpoche for his contribution to Dharma propagation. In fact, Chogye Rinpoche was the only Tibetan Lama to receive the honorific title from the king of Nepal.

In 2007, His Eminence told His disciples, “My mission in this life has been fulfilled.” Sitting in the solemn posture of meditation, His Eminence stayed on thukdam for 16 days, setting a record for the longest meditation period after Parinirvana.

His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche’s sacred body was brought back to the main temple, Jamchen Lhakhang Monastery which was next to Bodhnath Stupa from the retreat house in Narayanthan. The car drove slowly, More than ten thousand people hoped that they could see His Eminence. Rinpoche and lamas from different temples and lineages saluted respectfully with solemn Buddhist music to show respect along the way.

In addition, crows representing the dependents of Mahakala followed the ceremonial vehicles. When the sacred body of Dharma King entered the front gate of the Stupa, two round rainbows appeared around the sun in the sky. All of a sudden, every person felt an incredible blessing atmosphere, and local television stations and media rushed to take photos of the superior scene.

Flat areas in Kathmandu, Nepal, had never snowed in the past sixty-two years, but snowflakes in the shape of flowers fell from the sky. And two round rainbows appeared around the sun in the sky many times. In the Sutras, these auspicious signs symbolize the fully accomplished.

To our shock, after the cremation, Chogye Rinpoche’s eyes, tongue, and heart were undamaged, which represents His eternity in the body, speech, and mind. In addition, there were a lot of colorful relics, especially the blue and black ones, which assuredly be the result of practicing Hevajra and Mahakala during his life.
